Shop Local and Support Small Businesses at The Marsh Store and Melon Patch Quilts Shopping local has become extremely important during the pandemic and so has supporting small businesses. November 28th, 2020 is Small Business Saturday which falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. What better way to celebrate this retail “holiday” than shopping local to support small businesses. With the second wave starting up and the long, cold winter coming, quilters will be once again be busy at home finishing up UFOs. Plan your projects, sew your stash, stock up on backing and batting and book your machine quilting NOW to be prepared for the next 6 months of staying at home and distancing. When I moved to my current house, even though it was only 10 minutes away from my old house, I was very excited to be 3 doors down (in distance, not the band) from a local quilt shop- The Marsh Store. When I go shopping I am lucky that I can ride my bike, which in my mind totally counts as a workout and I can skip the gym! Who am I kidding, I have been skipping the gym for a few years now. Maybe I should make a playlist of their songs to listen to while I bike? 3 Doors Down songs My commute is nothing like Tracy’s when she bikes from her home to her shop. I sometimes I see her running by my house and I wave from inside while still wearing my pj’s. Clearly only one of us has our priorities straight, I’ll let you be the judge. Tracy and I thought shopping local would be the perfect combination for a quilt shop and a longarm machine quilter and wanted to encourage quilters to buy your backing fabric and/ or batting from The Marsh Store then bring your quilts to Melon Patch Quilts for machine quilting. While this is a fantastic plan to support local, what benefit is it for you, the quilter? Well if you support both businesses, you will get a $5 Marsh Money coupon from The Marsh Store and $5 off machine quilting from Melon Patch Quilts. Bring your receipt from The Marsh Store showing me you bought your backing and/ or backing there and I will give you one $5 Marsh Money coupon to be used on a future purchase at The Marsh Store. Stop in to The Marsh Store and when you buy your backing and batting and inquire about machine quilting at Melon Patch Quilts and they will give you a $5 off Melon Money, to be used towards your next machine quilting order. Right there you have saved $10 and supported two local small businesses at the same time. Sounds like a wonderful idea doesn’t it? The Marsh Store carries a selection of 108” wide backing fabrics which is a longarm quilter’s dream as there are no seams to contend with when loading on the frame. Remember to always have the store rip your wide backs to ensure your backing is square and that you have enough fabric to allow for 4” extra on the length of the top and bottom of your quilt top. This is a great tip to ensure your fabric is ready to go for quilting and no swearing on my part as I don’t have to struggle with the backing. Sometimes the difference from one side to the other side of the selvedges can be over 12” of waste, just to square up a wide back. The Marsh Store also carries batting on a roll so you only have to buy what you need for the size of your quilt. When you bring your quilt to me for machine quilting, we can consult on what design will look best for your quilt. You can select from an edge to edge pattern, a freehand overall design or custom quilting, whichever will complement your quilt top the best. More information on preparing your quilt for machine quilting can be found on this page > Quilt Prep
Marsh Money and Melon Money are two ways to save some money while you get your quilting projects finished! On behalf of The Marsh Store and myself, we want to thank you for shopping local and supporting our small
